We are going to Mackinac Island, Michigan this August. We will be going August 23-29, 2020 ( 7 days/6 nights). This tour will include the following:
  • Day 1: Come and join North Augusta First Baptist Church as we depart this morning for Majestic Michigan, where four Great Lakes lap at its shores. We embark on an adventure of discovering why Michigan spells vacationland for thousands of people each year. Tonight’s destination is the Cincinnati, Ohio area, where we will enjoy dinner on our own in the area.
  • Day 2: Following breakfast we continue north as we travel to Dayton, home of the sprawling United States Air Force Museum. We’ll visit this largest military aviation museum in the world that has more than 150 major historic aircraft and other exhibits spanning the period from the Wright Brothers to the space age. This afternoon we’ll make a stop at the Cross In The Woods in Indian River, Michigan. The largest crucifix in the world - 55 feet tall and 22 feet wide - is carved from a single redwood tree and stands as the centerpiece of this Catholic shrine in the woods of northern Michigan. The bronze figure of Jesus Christ that is attached to the cross weighs about 14,000 pounds, and is the work of famous sculptor Marshall Fredericks. Our destination is Bavarian Village of Frankenmuth, Michigan, where we have accommodations tonight (B)
  • Day 3: Following breakfast we’ll take time to browse in Bronner’s Christmas Wonderland this morning. Before we depart Frankenmuth, we will indulge in a sumptuous included lunch at the Bavarian Inn. Next, we go to the very top of the lower peninsula of Michigan, where two of the Great Lakes, Michigan and Huron, surround us. We’ll spend two nights in the Mackinaw City area, We’ll have time tonight to explore in the unique downtown area and have dinner on our own. (B,L)
  • Day 4: This day has been set aside to explore the beautiful and magical Mackinac Island. Indians called it “Great Turtle” and the island was a stronghold of the Straits of Mackinac for 115 years. We will take a short ferry ride to the island, and as we step ashore we seem to be transported “Somewhere in Time”. We will have a carriage tour of the island and an included buffet lunch at the beautiful Grand Hotel. This historic hotel, on beautifully landscaped grounds, dates to 1887 and overlooks the straits of Mackinac. Following dinner on our own, we travel back to the mainland and spend the night in the Mackinaw City area once again. (B,L)
  • Day 5: This morning we head south following breakfast, enroute to Dover, Ohio. We’ll make a picture stop in Canton, Ohio at the circular, domed William McKinley Tomb, which is the final resting place of the 25th U.S. president. McKinley spent much of his life in Canton. Nearby, the McKinley Presidential Library and Museum chronicles the president's life. We’ll spend the next two nights in the Dover, Ohio area. (B)
  • Day 6: It’s just a short drive this morning to Berlin, OH in the heart of World’s Largest Amish Community. Our first stop will be a visit to the Amish & Mennonite Heritage Center, home of the cyclorama mural, Behalt. Next, we depart on our countryside tour with a local step on guide who will explain the history and culture of the area while we travel deep into the heart of the Amish Farmlands. Stops will include Heini’s Cheese, where we can sample more than 50 varieties of local made cheeses. We’ll also visit Wendell August Forge that houses many unique, one-of-a-kind handcrafted metal gift ideas. This evening we will have a private guided tour of Warther Carvings, home of the World’s Master Carver, Ernest “Mooney” Warther. We’ll learn the story of this amazing man while viewing the priceless ebony and ivory carvings that he created. We’ll visit Mrs. Warther’s button house with over 70,000 buttons arranged in artwork, and browse the knife shop, home to the finest kitchen cutlery. Our evening culminates with an included candlelight dinner in the ivory room. Overnight will again be in the Dover, OH area. (B,D)
  • Day 7: Following breakfast this morning we’re homeward bound. We have some wonderful memories to recall as we recollect our time spend in Magnificent Michigan and beautiful Ohio. (B)
