Shari Hooper

Pastoral Counselor
B.S. Elementary Ed., M.Ed. Counseling

I am excited to serve as a pastoral counselor at FBC of North Augusta.

I’m enjoying life’s journey alongside children and teen clients as they face difficult times and situations. Our children and teens need emotional support and care, as well as mental health counseling--more than ever before. They especially need adults to bring them back to God’s purpose and plans for their life. I love working as a pastoral counselor at FBC of NA and will continue this position part time.

My husband Jim and I are thankful that in 1991, as young marrieds, God introduced us to the FBC of NA church family. We have been active members since that time. Over the years, I have spoken several times about my favorite topic for Christian parents, “God’s Design for Sexuality.” I will be teaching this class again on Wednesday evenings, beginning April 17, 2022

I have been involved in public school education since 1991 after receiving my B.S. in Elementary Education at University of Akron. I began as an ELA and SS teacher at North Augusta Middle School.  While working, I obtained a Master of Education degree in Counseling from Augusta State University in 1995.
In 1998, I accepted a position as a part time School Counselor at Belvedere Elementary, stayed home for a few years with my young children, but then returned to Hammond Hill Elementary in 2006. From 2010-2022 I worked for Mossy Creek Elementary as the School Counselor.

In January 2022, I was nominated for and then named, the SC State School Counselor of the Year. It was a great privilege to travel to Washington, D.C. in Feb.2023 to be honored at that national recognition celebration.

I retired from SC Education in May, 2022 with 28 years of experience, then accepted a new position at Lake Forest Hills Elementary in Georgia as a School Counselor there. This new challenge will began soon after retirement, but most importantly, I have remained a part time Pastoral Counselor at FBCNA.

I am married to my best friend, Mr. James Hooper, who is an Assistant Principal at Harlem High School. We have three adult children, Cassandra (who is married to Dylan Taylor)  Kate, and Max.  We love to spend time together as a family, and especially love traveling to Disney. We are also involved in many church activities/ministries at First Baptist North Augusta.  I especially enjoy scrapbooking and watching old television shows.
